Mold if You Dew, Mildew if You Don't

We try to always do things right. We don't want to replace our gear any more often than necessary, but at the same time we are kind of lazy at times.

We went camping with our 5 to 6 person tent that in my personal opinion is a two person at best. (But that is because I am a glamper at heart) In the morning we wanted to get back on the road quickly so we were breaking down the campsite in the early morning sun. Texas mornings are typically high humidity meaning dew is on everything.

The tent was completely dry on the inside, but when we broke down and shoved everything into the little bag it comes in the dew spread. The dirt stuck to the bottom of the tent spread as well. In my head I thought we were done, but my wife who is much more outdoorsy than I let me know that if we don't the tent will mold from being stored while wet.

So, when we got home we set up the tent again to dry it. The outside was still soaked, but the inside was just a little wet. We zipped it up except the bottom zipper part to let some airflow through. I was thinking that there was still a three or four inch lip where the zipper is so water wouldn't get in.

Rather than letting it dry during the day and taking it down that evening, I got lazy and left it up... all week... through the wind... and rain............

Last night I went to go check it out and we had a few nice, very cold, puddles on the inside of the tent. So it is back to ground zero. We need to let the tent dry...

Check out the video of when I went to see the tent.
