Don’t let size fool you. A friend suggest I get this bag for our adventure. I wasn’t sure what size I needed for a few days so I went with the medium. When I opened it I laughed because the medium is HUGE! It’s 18” X 19”/ 30L. It can hold a lot of food. I used it on my last adventure that was 6 days and I still had room for others food. I do have the size small on my Amazon Wishlist, lol.
One of the great things about this bag is that it has a 100% satisfaction warranty. This is good for many reasons, let me tell you about one of my reasons.
My friend and I were at Pednerales Falls State Park, in Texas. We were in our tents going to sleep when I heard footsteps that did not belong to one another. I looked out my tent and didn’t see anything. A few minutes later I heard something near the tree where my Rat Sack was hanging. I shined my headlamp on it and a racoon was trying to get it. I had some food in my pack that needed to go into the Rat Sack. I went back to bed and that racoon came right back! At this point it was more determined to get into my sack! He finally got ahold of it, climbing up, then swung from it! I got up again, put up guy lines between 2 trees and hung the sack from that, like you’re supposed to do. The racoon went away to another camp and, I heard in the morning, ate all their food.
In the morning I noticed that some of the stainless steel mesh was a little messed up from the racoon. I contacted the company and they sent me a new bag, no questions asked.
I do pair this bag with a smell proof bag to be on the safe side. When we were on the OT we didn’t have any issues with any rodent/varmin.
You will need to get your own carabiner and guy lines to properly hang this. However there is an option on Amazon to get everything you need.
If you’re going to be camping/backpacking a few days I would recommend the size small or extra small. I think the medium would work for a family of 4 going camping for a 3-4days.
The picture, not of the cat, has 7 meals in it.
Pros: Everything
Cons: it’s bulky so packing it down small can be difficult.
